Richard Sanchez Richard Sanchez was born in Mexico but is really Irish at heart. In his younger days, meaning anything past last week, he expressed himself artistically by writing two novels. Both are unpublished, of course. Also, he wrote many "sayings" which are like poetry but since he didn't want to offend the art form, he called his "sayings." In May of 2003, he was given a watercolor paint set to try his hand at it. He didn't know he would like it at all but it turns out that he fell in love with it. He especially loves the freedom it grants him - just him, a brush, some canvas and colors and his imagination. He started oils shortly after the watercolors and found them to be much more to his taste. He has never painted a watercolor since. He has not had much formal training - well actually none unless you can consider one art class in high school training. He learns as he goes along - the best way of learning is doing in his opinion. What he's trying to accomplish in his work is a break from the mold. A break of stereotype. A fresh voice and vision. His influences are Dali, Van Gogh, Matisse, all the masters of old really - but especially those three.
