Diana Berry’s Very Berry CD Reviewed by Dina Di Maio
Diana Berry can sing. The diva with the rock voice, likened to Debbie Harry and Patti Smith, shows her versatility on her new CD, Very Berry. The artist-poet-actor-musician glides from funky rock and roll you can dance to to punk to slower ballads and beyond. Her voice is as versatile as her musical style. "What’s a Girl To Do" is maybe the best song on the CD—truly showing her soulful range and the raw emotion of a girl who has lost love. This song is juxtaposed with "Next to You," reminiscent of 60s psychedelic rock. In "Farm Song," we hear yet another side of Berry’s voice—a softer side, one that has the singer pleading to her lover not to break her heart. "Slowboat" is a touching guitar ballad worthy of note. "Athena" ends the CD with its pleasing, pretty sound. Berry says she writes songs that are "imaginative" and "emotionally appealing." Very Berry encompasses her romanticism through various styles of music for an earthy and enchanting listening experience. The only thing better would be seeing her perform live.
